Sam Decker places 2nd in diving at state meet
Pearland junior diver Sam Decker placed second at the UIL Class 5A State Swimming and Diving meet held at the University of Texas Swim Center in Austin. He was the only member of the Pearland HS swim team who qualified for the state meet this year.
Decker won the District 24-5A title and then captured the 5A Region VI diving crown that sent him to the state meet where he claimed the silver medal.
Cragin strikes gold with record-setting performances
Friendswood junior Cole Cragin broke a state record in both individual events that he competed in at the UIL Class 4A state swim meet. One of the records was his from a year ago in the 100 backstroke and the other was in the 100 butterfly where he placed second last year behind Nick Kalivas of Richardson Pearce who won with a time of 50.77 to set a new state mark to barely finish ahead of Cragin who took the silver medal in 51.42.
